Dear Parents and Families,

Thank you for considering Workshop Middle School.

Right now, you might feel overwhelmed. You’ve cared closely for your child throughout elementary school, and you’re fairly worried about middle school. You’re looking for a school that ignites your child’s passion for learning, but you’ve heard that middle school instruction can be narrow and rigid. You’re looking for a school that challenges your child to learn advanced academic skills, but you’ve heard that middle school curriculum is driven by content standards well below admissions standards for top area high schools. You’re looking for a school that listens carefully to your child, but you know that middle school classes have up to 35 students or more in a class.

As parents, we understand your concerns. In fact, we understand exactly how important middle school is for your whole family. We’ve built the school just for you!

We are independent.

As successful public school educators, we never imagined that we’d found an independent school. In fact, we believe deeply in the mission of public education. However, we are frustrated by structures in public education that narrow school diversity and limit advanced learning.

Workshop Middle is a demonstration school for high-leverage practice in the middle grades. You see: middle school really matters! Research explains that student performance in middle school has a more significant impact on student learning in high school and college than any academic program in high school and college.

Over the last several years, we traveled across the country to learn from inspired education leaders and innovators. There is a rising tide of innovative independent schools working to reimagine education. These conversations helped inspire a movement to connect transformative independent schools. The Innovative Schools Cooperative is a national network of innovative schools, including distinguished schools in San Francisco, Boston, Philadelphia, and more!

How can we help you?

We are currently accepting applications for the 2021-22 school year. If you’re ready to start your application, you can begin the application process at Ravenna, an online application platform for independent schools.

For the 2020-21 school year, tuition is $37,500. However, tuition awards are indexed to family income. This means that every family receives an individualized tuition award that reflects your ability to pay an equitable amount.
